BUA Cement Company has awarded N40 million in scholarships to 200 students across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States, an initiative designed to deepen its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments to education, youth empowerment, and community development. The scheme also prioritized beneficiaries from the company’s host community in Wamakko, Sokoto State.
The Managing Director, Engineer Yusuf Binji, represented by Plant Director, Aminu Bashar, said the scholarship program reinforces BUA Cement’s long-term commitment to investing in human capital and supporting inclusive growth within its operational communities.
He described education as a “strategic foundation for progress,” noting that empowering students with academic opportunities is central to BUA’s mission of enabling socio-economic advancement.
“We are passionate about the educational upliftment of students, particularly in Wamakko community,” he said. “This support is a key part of our CSR mandate, and we want all beneficiaries to take advantage of this opportunity to build a brighter future.”
Head of Department, Health, Community Safety and Environment, Ali Gumel, explained that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to giving back through interventions that build capacity and improve the developmental prospects of young people.
Each of the three benefiting states Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara received a cheque of N10 million, while an additional N10 million was allocated to the immediate host community. Beneficiaries are expected to receive direct payments within one week.
Representatives from the benefiting states, including Professor Rashida Usman (Zamfara), Hon. Usman Arzika (Sokoto), and Yusuf Abubakar (Kebbi), commended BUA Cement for sustaining impactful community-focused programs that continue to empower students and enhance development.
The District Head (Ubandoman) of Arkilla, Alhaji Aliyu Hassan, applauded the gesture while appealing for increased employment quotas for Wamakko community members. He urged BUA Cement to review its recruitment structure to accommodate more indigenes in permanent positions.
Students who received the scholarships expressed appreciation to the company, pledging to uphold academic excellence and justify the investment in their educational pursuits.
The scholarship initiative further strengthens BUA Cement’s position as a private-sector leader in youth development, education support, and community empowerment across northern Nigeria.
