During the masterclass sessions of the 2023 BusyBee Event Business Summit in Lagos, industry experts and key stakeholders highlighted the pivotal role of technology in revolutionizing the event planning industry, estimated to be worth $20 billion.

The summit, themed ‘Tech in Event Business – The New Narrative,’ featured insightful presentations by eminent personalities, including Ibrahim Bashir, Show Director of Experiential Planner Expo (EPEX) Dubai, and a host of other industry leaders.

Bashir emphasized the indispensability of technology in shaping the future of businesses and underlined its profound influence on the event industry. He accentuated the substantial impact of technology in elevating engagement levels and enhancing interaction at events.

The show director expounded on technology’s pivotal role in facilitating delegate experiences, event curation, and real-time engagement through various applications and tech platforms. Drawing from his experience in organizing destination marketing events, Bashir highlighted the instrumental role of data in the success of their shows, leveraging attendee feedback to refine subsequent events.

Bashir also underscored the cost-benefit analysis of technology, mentioning its initial expense but long-term advantages, advocating the utilization of AI, like Chat GPT, for press releases and speech writing to optimize operational efficiency without expanding human resources.

However, he cautioned attendees about potential challenges associated with technology adoption, including privacy concerns, ethical considerations, and data security, urging responsible usage of tech to address these sensitivities.

Bayo Adedeji, Group CEO of Wakanow, further emphasized the pivotal role of data in guiding technological advancement within businesses. He stressed the importance of leveraging data to discern technological needs, refine offerings, and navigate business growth, highlighting its instrumental role in strategic decision-making and progress.

The event summit showcased an insightful narrative, urging industry players to embrace technology responsibly while harnessing data-driven insights to foster innovation and growth within the event planning domain.
