Call For Applications : Blue Food Futures Research Grant Program 2026 ( Up to $10,000 Grant)
Share

The Blue Food Futures Program (BFFP) has opened applications for its 2026 Research Grant Program, offering emerging researchers and professionals an opportunity to access up to $10,000 in research funding and travel support. The initiative expands ongoing work from the global Blue Food Assessment and the Aquatic Blue Food Coalition, advancing research, policy engagement, and scientific evidence that will shape the future of sustainable blue food systems.

As an endorsed UN Ocean Decade program, BFFP is designed to deepen understanding of the contributions and limitations of blue foods, strengthening connections between science, policy, and on-ground action. The research grant supports individuals working on innovative projects connecting food systems, climate resilience, nature conservation, and social equity, while helping inform national and international policy discussions.

About the Program
The Research Grant Program aims to equip the next generation of blue food experts with resources to investigate how aquatic food systems contribute to global food security, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. Awardees will conduct research from their current institutions while collaborating virtually with global research partners, engaging in interdisciplinary work that highlights blue food’s role in climate adaptation and equitable food transitions.

Grantees will receive mentorship from world-class experts, visibility at global policy platforms, and access to a growing network of blue food researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers.

Why This Matters
Blue foods are becoming central to global food security conversations as countries face climate change, resource depletion, and nutrition challenges. This grant not only supports scientific discovery but also strengthens policy-relevant research that can influence decisions on sustainable fisheries, ocean resources, and equitable food access. The program equips emerging researchers to drive real change and ensures that scientific work translates into solutions that benefit people and the planet.

Eligibility Requirements
• Open to early-career researchers, practitioners, professionals, and PhD candidates (PhD obtained within the last five years or nearing completion)
• Candidates may come from academia, NGOs, government, or the private sector
• Must show active research interest in climate-linked blue food systems, small-scale fisheries, sustainability, nutrition, or biodiversity
• Must be based at an existing research institution where the fellowship will be hosted
• Strong communication skills and fluency in English required (other languages desirable)
• Ability to work independently and collaborate remotely with a distributed research team
• Preference for applicants with experience working in developing regions

Benefits of the Research Grant
• Up to $10,000 in research funding and travel support for fieldwork and policy engagement
• Mentorship from leading blue food researchers and global experts
• Opportunity to present research findings at international policy forums
• Integration into an international research and policy network
