Share

We are thrilled to announce the launch of The Amina Project [TAP], a transformative Women-Centered Tech Skills Acquisition & Job Placement Initiative designed by TALENTCODEAFRICA to empower financially disadvantaged women and teenage girls by providing high-demand tech skills training, internship opportunities, and eventual job placements. This initiative draws inspiration from Queen Amina, a historic Nigerian figure that symbolizes courage, leadership, and female independence.

Drawing from our corporate mission to empower and position over 10 million African tech talents by 2030, the Amina Project aims to bridge the gender gap in the African tech industry by empowering 2000 financially disadvantaged women and teenage girls with comprehensive tech skills training.

Project Sequencing

  • Phase 1: Tech Training

Phase 1 focuses on training 2000 financially disadvantaged, low-middle income earning women, and teenage girls in high-demand tech skills for the duration of three months. Our curriculum covers essential areas such as web development, mobile app development, cloud computing, data science and analytics, product management, product design, robotics, and cybersecurity.

  • Phase 2: Internship and Job Placements

In collaboration with corporate partners, following the training, internship and job placement opportunities will be offered to the top graduates from each cohort. Unsuccessful Participants who are not immediately offered job placements, will be funneled into a community group where female industry experts’ can mentor and guide them on their journey into tech.

Historical Inspiration – Queen Amina

Queen Amina, a revered historical figure in the city-state of Zazzau, serves as the guiding inspiration for this project. Much like Egypt’s Cleopatra, Queen Amina epitomizes African womanhood, courage, leadership, and independence. Her legacy transcends time, surviving several generations, thus providing a powerful narrative that resonates with the empowerment and advancement of African women.

At age sixteen, Amina was named Magajiya (heir apparent), and soon after she had distinguished herself as a “leading warrior in her brother’s cavalry” and gained notoriety for her military skills. She is still celebrated today in traditional Hausa praise songs as “Amina daughter of Nikatau, a woman as capable as a man that was able to lead men to war.” After the death of her brother Karami in 1576, Amina became the first queen of the Hausa people, reigning for 34 years.

In an era where digital prowess equates to power and influence, Queen Amina’s legacy is more relevant now than ever. Were she among us today, Queen Amina would undoubtedly be a digitally empowered monarch, harnessing technology to fortify her realm and lead a new generation of women into an age of self-reliance and prosperity.

By naming the initiative after Queen Amina, our mission echoes her indomitable spirit; we strive to empower every girl and woman with the tools to unlock their fullest potential. To be sovereigns in their own right, charting a course toward a fulfilling career, inspiring others, and building a legacy of impact and wealth that will endure for generations. This is the essence of our initiative – to cultivate leaders who, like Queen Amina, can transform their world.
