Applications are now open for the 2024 WACCBIP Biotech Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program

This initiative is designed to catalyze the emergence of ground-breaking biotech start-ups in Ghana and across Africa.

Program Components

  1. Entrepreneurship Training Course: Equip yourself with the essential tools to translate your biotech ideas into market-ready start-ups. Delivered in collaboration with the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Innovation and Incubation Hub, the Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID), and the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST).
  2. Incubation Programme: Nurture your fledgling business with dedicated support and resources, fostering growth and sustainability.
  3. Funding Scheme: Unlock the potential of your research projects with a funding scheme tailored for exceptional ventures.

Eligibility Requirements

  • WACCBIP fellows, interns, students, and alumni
  • Young biological scientists and trainees
  • Biomedical scientists and individuals are passionate about developing biotech start-ups.

Key Features:

  • A comprehensive introduction to the biotech ecosystem in Ghana and Africa
  • Basic to intermediate skills in biotech entrepreneurship and product development
  • Refinement of biotech product ideas for marketability

Duration: Five (5) days intensive boot camp and a two (2) month incubation and mentorship program at the University of Ghana.

  1. Biotech Entrepreneurship Training Course (5 Days)
  2. Biotech Start-up Incubation Program (2 Months)

Course Content:

  1. The Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship
  2. Global Biotech Ecosystem [Time with the Industry]
  3. The Fundamentals of Product Development
  4. Venture/ Enterprise Development
  5. Fundamentals of pitch development/ Pitch DNA and Practice.

Assessment:

  • Pitch competition to determine incubation program participants.
  • Evaluation of applied knowledge and skills in developing ideas

Certificate:

Upon completion of the five day boot camp, participants will be awarded prestigious Certificate in the Essentials of Biotech Entrepreneurship jointly awarded by WACCBIP, UGBS Innovation Hub, and IAST.

Funding Opportunity:

  • Up to $5,000.00 seed funding for at least 3 incubator start-ups
  • Exploration of collaborative funding with partners like the Resolution Project
