Cavista Technology, a subsidiary of Cavista Holdings, has launched its second annual Hackathon initiative aimed at bridging the digital skills gap in Nigeria while fostering the development of technology solutions to tackle local and global challenges.

During the weekend event held in Lagos, Mr. Bamidele Odufuye, Executive Director of Cavista Holdings, emphasized the importance of the Hackathon in identifying and nurturing talent while providing participants with exposure to essential digital skills required in the technology sector. He highlighted the significance of encouraging local talent to remain in Nigeria and contribute to the development of technology solutions for the country.

Over 150 students from prominent institutions such as the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University (LASU), and Yaba College of Technology participated in the Hackathon. The focus was on developing solutions related to food and diseases in the health sector, with an emphasis on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address health-related challenges.

The Hackathon provided a platform for participants to showcase their innovative solutions, with nine groups ultimately selected to pitch their ideas at the finals. The winning team, led by Michael Eziamaka, developed an AI-assisted solution to help individuals create personalized skin routines to address various skin diseases.

Eziamaka shared that his team learned about the competition through their Head of Department and decided to participate, despite preparing late. Their victory underscores the value of initiatives like the Cavista Hackathon in nurturing talent and fostering innovation within the Nigerian tech ecosystem.

The success of the Hackathon demonstrates the potential for local talent to develop impactful solutions that address pressing societal issues while contributing to the growth of the technology sector in Nigeria.
