Dangote Cement Launches 2025 Sustainability Week, Promotes Sports, Education, and Community Growth
Share

Dangote Cement Plant, Obajana, has launched its 2025 Sustainability Week with a vibrant mix of sporting, educational, and community-focused activities, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development. Themed “Sustainable Progress: Celebrating Growth and Partnerships,” this year’s edition expands the scope of the company’s annual celebration to promote holistic community advancement.

The week-long event, which kicked off on October 24, gathered employees and members of surrounding host communities for a series of initiatives that blend recreation, learning, and partnership. The highlight of the opening ceremony was a football tournament that captured the spirit of teamwork and collaboration.

The tournament’s grand finale, held on October 29 at the Obajana Academy Field, saw the Oyo Community Football Team clinch victory with a 1–0 win over Dangote Cement Transport. The match drew an energetic crowd and was graced by senior management officials, including Plant Director, Azad Nawabuddin, and other executives.

The football games, according to the company, were designed not just for entertainment but to strengthen bonds between employees and community members while promoting physical wellness, unity, and mutual respect.

In his remarks, Nawabuddin explained that the company’s investment in community sports reflects its broader vision for inclusive and sustainable development. “The football tournament we witnessed today does much more than provide entertainment—it builds character, teaches valuable life lessons, and creates enduring bonds between our organization and the communities we serve,” he said.

The week also featured an Inter-School Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition, which brought together ten secondary schools from host communities. Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, emerged as the winner, showcasing excellence in literacy and critical thinking. The competition provided a platform for young learners to demonstrate their academic talents while reinforcing Dangote Cement’s commitment to education and youth development.

Head of HAM-Admin/HR, Peter Agba, highlighted the company’s focus on fostering both physical and intellectual growth. “Our simultaneous focus on sporting activities and educational initiatives like the Spelling Bee competition represents a deliberate strategy to nurture the physical and intellectual capabilities of our community members,” he said. “This comprehensive approach creates the foundation for sustainable community growth and empowerment.”

Beyond sports and education, the 2025 Sustainability Week will also feature environmental initiatives, health awareness drives, and skills development workshops. These programs reflect the company’s evolving sustainability framework, which integrates physical health, mental well-being, and environmental stewardship into community engagement.

Dangote Cement reaffirmed its long-term commitment to continuous community development through quarterly sporting events and educational programs. By combining recreation, learning, and empowerment, the company continues to demonstrate how corporate organizations can drive social impact while strengthening partnerships with their host communities.

As the week continues, Dangote Cement remains focused on advancing meaningful progress through collaboration, innovation, and responsible corporate citizenship—proving once again that sustainability is not just about business growth but about building stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities.
