In celebration of the 2024 Global Handwashing Day, Nigeria’s leading hygiene brand, Dettol, renewed its dedication to advancing hand hygiene and health practices across the country. The brand announced partnerships with the federal government, The Wellbeing Foundation Africa, and WASH Access Accelerator beneficiaries Kiddies ‘n’ Brands and Alora Pads.
UNICEF’s WASHNORM report highlights that 23% of Nigerians lack access to basic water supplies, and only 10% have access to essential water, sanitation, and hygiene services. Addressing this gap, Dettol collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, led by Minister Joseph Terlumun Utsev, to drive awareness of hand hygiene’s role in disease prevention. Speaking on October 15 at the commemoration in Abuja, ministry representative Richard Pheelangwah emphasized, “Hand hygiene is essential to preventing infectious diseases.”
Cassandra Uzo-Ogbugh, Head of External Affairs and Partnerships at Reckitt Sub-Saharan Africa, reinforced Dettol’s commitment, stating, “We believe clean hands are the first line of defense against preventable diseases. Since 2021, through our Hygiene Quest Curriculum, we’ve reached over 300,000 individuals, including school children and healthcare community members. This milestone reflects our commitment to promote a healthier Nigeria.”
Dettol also extended its Clean Naija initiative in partnership with the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, promoting hygiene education through its Hygiene Quest program in Lagos, Abuja, and Kwara.
