Ecobank Nigeria Partners with Opolo Global to Empower Schools Through AI Training
Share

Ecobank Nigeria has joined forces with Opolo Global to provide training and empowerment to schools in Lagos as part of its annual Ecobank Day activities, a social initiative led by the Ecobank Foundation that encourages employee community engagement.

The 2024 event, themed “Ignite Learning with AI,” focused on enhancing foundational learning and utilizing artificial intelligence to boost literacy, numeracy, and digital skills among children, particularly at Zion Star School in Lagos.

Oluwafemi Ajayi, Head of Product Development and Lagos Operations at Opolo Global, commended Ecobank for its commitment to educating students in AI and robotics—skills crucial for the future. He emphasized that the training equips children to thrive in the digital age and highlighted AI’s transformative potential in education, business efficiency, and decision-making.

“We will expand this initiative to several schools across the state, especially those located far from the city center and serving a higher number of underprivileged students,” Ajayi stated.

Ecobank Nigeria reinforced the importance of equipping Nigerian children with essential literacy, numeracy, and digital skills at an early age, stating, “This enables them to excel academically, prepares them for a rapidly changing digital landscape, and broadens their opportunities in life and employment.”

The activities on Ecobank Day saw employees volunteering in various communities across Nigeria, providing literacy lessons, mentoring, and collaborating with schools to enhance digital resources. The bank expressed gratitude to Opolo Global for their partnership in making this initiative impactful for Nigerian children.

Since its inception in 2013, Ecobank Day has launched critical interventions and supported various social causes, including youth education in Africa, malaria prevention, improving ICT in schools, and promoting financial literacy.
