EDC, Mastercard Foundation Support Female - Led Agro Firm
Share

In a bid to foster innovation in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain and expand opportunities for young female entrepreneurs, the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, has reinforced the Agro-Hack Challenge initiative in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation and GEN Nigeria.

At the recently concluded 5th edition of the Agro-Hack Challenge, held at the EDC office, twelve female-led agro businesses were recognized for their contributions to the sector. All Green Limited emerged as the overall winner, securing a grand prize of N1 million, while Glorious Farm Gate and Vickey Goshen Eco Farm claimed second and third places, receiving N750,000 and N500,000, respectively. Nine other finalists were awarded N100,000 each.

This year’s competition featured participants from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including Market AI, Juvison Enterprise, Glorious Farm Gate, Elafagon Nigeria Limited, Yar Galadimas Business Empire, Sehaj Energy Resource, Mrs. Muna Rice Shield, Triple A, Farm Box, Awari Olounge Omode, and All Green Ivy Limited.

Speaking during the pitch session, Dr. Nnena Ugwu, Head of Alumni Relations and Support Services and a member of the EDC Management Board, highlighted the program’s goal of driving innovation while accelerating opportunities for female agro-entrepreneurs. She noted that while previous editions welcomed both male- and female-led businesses, this year’s challenge specifically focused on women due to their underrepresentation in the sector.

To support their growth, participants underwent accelerator programs, including boot camps and mentorship sessions, equipping them with business strategies to navigate challenges within the agricultural value chain.

The Agro-Hack Challenge, organized by EDC and GEN Nigeria in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, continues to empower female entrepreneurs and small businesses, providing them with the necessary tools to drive transformation, strengthen the agro sector, and contribute to economic growth.
