Benin City, Edo State – The Edo State Government has unveiled its ambitious plan to train approximately 3,000 civil and public servants in Digital Appreciation and Business Packaging. Collaborating with partners and stakeholders, the government aims to domesticate the digital economy policy and strategy framework, promoting digital inclusion across the state.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Yuwa Naps, the Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Digital Economy, Science, and Technology, highlighted the government’s commitment to implementing the Nigeria digital economy policy. Partnerships with organizations such as Tech4Dev and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group will play a crucial role in driving the inclusive use of technology.
“Our conversation revolves around the domestication of the Nigeria digital economy policy. We are eager to push this policy in Edo State,” Naps stated, urging stakeholders to support the government’s efforts in developing the policy document. The goal is to ensure that micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and private businesses in Edo State have access to technology, fostering their growth and success.
Kelvin Uwabi, the Managing Director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), emphasized the importance of the policy review on the digital economy in Edo State. He emphasized that it would create opportunities for small businesses to leverage technology effectively.
“The essence is to domesticate the digital economy policy, focusing on digital inclusion,” Uwabi explained. “Our aim is to ensure that every person in Edo State can access technology.”
Highlighting Edo State’s commitment to business development, Uwabi noted the successful capacity-building efforts for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Through training programs, 445 businesses were equipped with the skills to showcase their products online, leading to positive feedback and appreciation for the state government’s support.
The partnership between the Edo State Government and various stakeholders is set to empower workers with digital skills, enhance the state’s economic landscape, and pave the way for a digitally inclusive society in Edo State.
