In a resounding effort to empower the young minds of Nigeria and set them on a path to a brighter future, the ‘The Next Economy’ employability skills initiative has successfully completed its second phase of training in Abuja from 2020 to 2023.
Eghosa Erhumwunse, the National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Abuja, underscored the critical importance of empowering youths, particularly as they navigate the economic challenges during their transition into adulthood. He stressed that, despite the numerous hurdles, Nigeria cannot afford to falter, and initiatives like this are pivotal in instilling self-confidence and imparting essential skills for thriving careers and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Represented by Felix Ebhota, the Program Manager at SOS Children’s Villages, Gwagwalada, Erhumwunse further emphasized that ‘The Next Economy’ has been instrumental in shaping the aspirations of young individuals venturing into the competitive job market and the dynamic world of business.
Ebhota elaborated, “This program provides a diverse range of entrepreneurship courses, thoughtfully designed to accommodate the multifaceted dreams and ambitions of Nigerian youth. It empowers them to secure meaningful employment or embark on the path of self-employment. ‘The Next Economy’ serves as a platform where youths are equipped with the skills and entrepreneurial know-how needed to thrive in the professional world.”
One of the program’s beneficiaries, Michael Onoseme, attested that ‘The Next Economy’ had armed him with the essential skills needed to excel in the business landscape. He highlighted that the program has broadened his horizons regarding the possibilities in business, fostering resilience, and sharpening his ability to effectively pitch business ideas to potential customers and investors.
