She emphasized the importance of government support for the non-oil export industry and called for its continuation and enhancement in the future.
Highlighting the significance of the non-oil export industry in sustaining the economy, she acknowledged the government’s efforts to encourage exporters by providing incentives to boost exports. Chidume-Okoro noted that tax exemptions and expansion grants have been instrumental in incentivizing non-oil exports, contributing to the balance of trade.
While recognizing the challenges faced by non-oil exporters, particularly regarding infrastructure such as bad roads leading to delayed supply of goods, she underscored the need for ongoing government support to facilitate the growth and resilience of the sector.
Chidume-Okoro advised aspiring exporters to remain focused, consistent, and resilient in overcoming challenges to achieve success in the non-oil export sector.
She also mentioned GACON’s specialization in exporting various agricultural commodities, herbs, and botanicals, including fresh ginger, dried split ginger, dried turmeric, hibiscus flower, gum arabic, hot chili pepper, cassia tora seeds, dried kola nuts, and Prosopis juliflora.
In recognition of her contributions to the sector, Chidume-Okoro was honored with the “Woman Exporter of the Year 2010” presidential award for non-oil exports.
Through its export activities, GACON continues to play a significant role in promoting Nigeria’s non-oil sector and contributing to economic growth.
