The federal government is taking steps to overhaul Nigeria’s land transport sector with the introduction of a National Land Transportation Policy (NLTP), aimed at addressing current inefficiencies.

Transportation Minister, Sen Said Ahmed Alkali, disclosed this during the inauguration of a stakeholders’ validation forum for the draft policy in Abuja.

The forum seeks to gather insights and expertise to develop a transformative blueprint for Nigeria’s land transportation future, with the goal of creating a validated policy framework to guide the sector’s transformation.

Emphasizing the policy’s potential, Sen Alkali described it as a vision for a more efficient, interconnected, and sustainable transport system that serves the nation’s needs and drives economic growth.

The draft NLTP assesses current challenges and proposes strategic responses to enhance the sector, considering factors such as climate change, capacity building, and inclusive transportation. It also outlines actionable implementation strategies to prioritize seamless integration between different transport modes.

Sen Alkali stressed the collaborative nature of the policy-making process, encouraging stakeholders to contribute their perspectives and expertise to shape a modern, responsive, and inclusive land transportation system in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
