The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled plans to recognize and reward innovative and resilient entrepreneurs who have excelled in their endeavors with monetary incentives. Senior Special Assistant on Job Creation and MSMEs, Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, announced that outstanding entrepreneurs will be rewarded with houses, cars, and cash prizes as part of the 2024 MSMEs Week celebrations.
The initiative, designed to commemorate the 2024 United Nations World MSMEs Day, aims to promote and reward the activities of small-scale businesses across the country. The MSMEs award ceremony, an annual event, honors indigenous MSMEs and acknowledges the efforts of both businesses and state governments in fostering the growth of small enterprises.
Adequate prizes, including sports utility Vehicles, houses, and financial grants, will be awarded to deserving small businesses. The MSMEs application portal will go live on May 1 and close on May 30, providing language-friendly access for applicants.
The event, serving as the official close to the National MSME Week, highlights the innovation and contributions of MSMEs in Nigeria. Vice-President Kashim Shettima is expected to attend the FCT MSMEs clinic at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, scheduled for June 25.
Additionally, the government has expanded national MSME clinics to provide a platform for businesses to exhibit, access investments, and develop key areas such as funding, skill development, infrastructure, market access, and technology. The selection process for the awards includes registration with relevant agencies like the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, the Corporate Affairs Commission, and the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration And Control.
