President Bola Tinubu has revealed plans to establish 24 skills and vocational hubs in polytechnics nationwide, along with entrepreneurship centers in universities, to enhance practical education and foster entrepreneurship.
Represented by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, at Bayero University Kano’s 38th convocation ceremony, President Tinubu outlined the government’s commitment to reviving 970 Tsangaya Centres for Almajiri education and building 91 vocational schools in secondary institutions.
“We are determined to ensure that all levels of education benefit from our policies,” President Tinubu stated, emphasizing the administration’s focus on skills development and entrepreneurship.
Prof. Sagir Abbas, Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, celebrated the institution’s achievements, highlighting its recent ranking as the 5th best university in Nigeria. He attributed this success to the university’s strategic vision plans, including a shift towards research-based education and a focus on science and technology.
Abbas reiterated the university’s commitment to global visibility through collaboration with international partners and increased research output.
The convocation ceremony, which saw the award of degrees, diplomas, and honorary doctorates, featured prominent figures like Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adeshina, among others.
The event underscored Bayero University Kano’s dedication to education, research, and community service, marking another milestone in its journey towards becoming a global best practice university.
