FG Trains 270 Technical Teachers in Digital Literacy and Trade-specific skills in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Education has trained 270 technical teachers and instructors in Digital Literacy Pedagogy and Trade-Specific skills to enhance technical and vocational education in Nigeria. The 21-day training, held in Ibadan, was aimed at equipping educators with modern skills to meet the demands of an evolving workforce.

Minister of Education Dr Olatunji Alausa, represented by Dr Muyibat Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education, stressed the importance of skilled educators in fostering innovation and preparing students for global competitiveness. He noted that as technology reshapes industries, technical and vocational education must evolve to equip individuals with the practical knowledge needed to excel.

“This initiative bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, ensuring students are not just educated but also employable and industry-ready,” Alausa said.

The minister highlighted the lasting impact of well-trained educators, stating that their role goes beyond teaching to inspiring students to become entrepreneurs, innovators, and problem-solvers. “This training is not just about acquiring new methodologies; it’s about rekindling passion for skill development and preparing our students to be globally competitive.”

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, commended the Federal Government for prioritizing technical education and urged participants to apply their knowledge effectively. He noted that Oyo State has revamped all its technical colleges to support vocational training.

Mrs Blessing Ogwu, National Coordinator of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project, emphasized that investing in technical teacher training is a cost-effective way to improve education outcomes without compromising equity.

As Nigeria pushes for stronger technical and vocational education, initiatives like this are expected to strengthen the workforce and prepare students for the realities of a rapidly changing economy.
