Financial Services Innovators (FSI), in partnership with Mentors Without Borders, has launched a six-month tech empowerment and mentorship program at Thomas Adewunmi University (TAU), Kwara State, to upskill 50 students in high-demand digital fields and enhance their global employability.
The initiative, which builds on the earlier establishment of the FSI Virtual Innovation Lab at TAU, aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world technology practice. Participants will receive hands-on mentorship in web development, machine learning, AI product management, project management, digital marketing, and technical support.
Executive Director of FSI, Aituaz Kola-Oladejo, said the collaboration reflects FSI’s long-term vision to nurture young African innovators capable of driving technological advancement and entrepreneurship.
“This programme represents our commitment to building a strong pipeline of skilled tech talent across African universities. Thomas Adewunmi University has shown exceptional commitment to innovation, and we are proud to pilot this transformative mentorship here,” she said.
Founder and Executive Director of Mentors Without Borders, Edmond Pruteanu, described Nigeria as home to one of Africa’s most creative and ambitious youth populations.
“We’re excited to expand our work in Nigeria through this collaboration. Our goal is to support young people as they develop critical tech skills and confidence to compete globally,” he added.
Vice Chancellor of TAU, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, commended the partnership, saying it aligns with the institution’s mission to produce graduates equipped for the digital economy.
“This collaboration gives our students direct exposure to international mentors, industry tools, and practical experience that prepare them for real-world challenges,” she said.
The initiative reinforces growing efforts across Nigeria to build a digitally skilled generation and strengthen youth participation in technology-driven entrepreneurship.
