The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, operating under the National Social Investment Programme Agency, remains a key pillar of Nigeria’s efforts to expand financial inclusion and strengthen grassroots economic activity by supporting micro and small businesses across the country.
Designed to reach Nigerians who are often excluded from formal financial systems, the programme focuses on smallholder farmers, market traders, artisans, youths and other vulnerable groups engaged in agriculture, informal trading and micro-enterprises. Since its launch, GEEP has reached millions of beneficiaries nationwide, with particular attention given to women, youths and underserved communities across all six geopolitical zones.
At the core of the programme is access to affordable financing tailored to the realities of small-scale operators. FarmerMoni supports agricultural productivity by providing up to ₦300,000 to smallholder farmers for essential inputs and farm-related expenses, helping to improve yields and stabilise incomes. For traders and artisans, MarketMoni and TraderMoni offer loans of up to ₦100,000, enabling beneficiaries to restock goods, expand operations and improve cash flow.
All GEEP loans are provided at zero interest and without collateral requirements, removing major barriers that typically prevent micro-entrepreneurs from accessing credit. Beneficiaries also receive a three-month moratorium before repayment begins, allowing businesses time to generate income before loan obligations take effect. Repayment structures are designed to be flexible and aligned with the specific loan product, reducing pressure on small operators.
Beyond access to finance, the programme plays a broader role in strengthening local economies by supporting small businesses that serve as the backbone of community-level trade and employment. By enabling farmers to invest in production and traders to grow their businesses, GEEP contributes to improved livelihoods, job creation and increased economic activity at the grassroots.
Applications for GEEP loans are ongoing, giving eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register at any time through the official GEEP platform or approved registration centres within their communities. As economic pressures persist, the programme continues to position itself as a critical support mechanism for micro and small enterprises seeking stability, growth and inclusion in Nigeria’s evolving economy.
