The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) have signed an agreement to scale-up Ghana’s national initiatives on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) promotion.
The Project supports both the National MSME and Entrepreneurship Policy and the Industrial Transformation Agenda of the Government of Ghana.
Since 2012, Ghana has promoted Kaizen methods, a Japanese concept and methodology for enhancing the quality and productivity of companies in a sustainable manner.
The Kaizen Principles have been introduced to hundreds of Ghanaian businesses, and they have been successful in using them and enhancing their quality and efficiency as a result.
Ghana will scale up this project to further boost the competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the nation in order to increase the developmental impact at the industry and national levels.
Additionally, the Project would offer assistance to the country’s recently formed Business Resource Centres (BRCs).
UNIDO started the Project for Expanding the Kaizen initiative by enhancing sustainable agribusiness in an effort to assist Ghana in expanding its National Kaizen Initiative.
The project will introduce the “Smart and Sustainable Agri-Business” (SSAB) UNIDO Digital Dashboard System, allowing Ghanaian MSMEs to view and, as a result, better manage the performance of their business through a smart and digital Platform.
By collecting key performance indicators from the production site, SSAB will not only address productivity issues, but will also improve resource efficiency, food safety compliance as well as performnce of the MSMEs from a social perspective.
This three-Year Project will be implemented by UNIDO in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), with funding from the Japanese Government.
The launching ceremony was hosted by the Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, and attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hisanobu Mochizuki, UNIDO Representative to Ghana and Liberia, Fakhruddin Azizi, CEO of GEA, Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, Directors of MoTI and GEA, and other stakeholders.
In addition to addressing productivity difficulties, SSAB will increase resource efficiency, food safety compliance, and the social performance of MSMEs by gathering key performance indicators from the production site.
