Ahead of the upcoming Edo governorship election, Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced plans to distribute ₦1 billion in grants to traders across the state. The governor stated that the financial aid is a gesture of gratitude for the market women’s continued loyalty and support throughout his administration.
Speaking during an annual gathering in Benin, hosted by the Edo market women in his honor, Obaseki revealed that the distribution process will be transparent and handled in collaboration with market women leaders to ensure fairness.
He also hinted that if the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, wins the election, the grant would be doubled. “I am deeply grateful for the support you’ve shown throughout my tenure,” Obaseki said, acknowledging their commitment to backing Ighodalo in the election.
Madam Blacky Ogiemen, leader of the market women, praised the governor’s achievements and reaffirmed their loyalty to the PDP, promising to vote for Ighodalo and support his leadership.
This initiative comes as Obaseki’s administration continues to garner support from key community groups in the state.
