The Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State has launched a major empowerment initiative aimed at supporting women, artisans, small business owners, and young people within the community, as part of activities marking the administration’s first 100 days in office.
At the unveiling of the programme, work tools including sewing machines, hairdryers, grinding machines, barbing kits, welding machines, mini tractors, freezers, generators, catering equipment and vulcanizing kits were distributed to beneficiaries across all wards under the council.
According to the statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Akeem Mustapha, the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, grassroots development, and livelihood support for those driving micro and small-scale economic activities in Ikorodu.
Since assuming office on July 28, 2025, the council has also implemented interventions under its SEED Agenda Security, Education, Enhanced Healthcare, and Development targeted at improving access to opportunities, social welfare and enterprise support in the community.
Within the 100-day period, the local government facilitated free GCE forms for over 200 students, introduced summer coaching programmes, executed road repairs, drainage improvement works, and installed solar-powered boreholes to expand access to clean water. The administration also launched the Ladega Food Bank and Support Programme to assist vulnerable households, and the ITOJU AGBA Health Insurance Scheme in partnership with LASHMA, providing free healthcare for over 300 senior citizens.
“This administration is building a government that listens, acts and delivers for every resident of Ikorodu,” the statement added.
With increasing economic pressure faced by nano and micro entrepreneurs across Nigeria, the initiative is expected to help strengthen income generation for small business owners and improve productivity across sectors such as fashion, catering, repair services, and agriculture.
The council reaffirmed that the empowerment programme will continue beyond the 100-day milestone, with renewed focus on security, accessible healthcare, and more direct economic support for residents and small business operators in Ikorodu.
