Jamaica’s government is urging micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to embrace digital transformation to stay competitive in the evolving global market. Minister of Industry, Investment, and Commerce emphasized that technology is no longer optional but essential for business survival. He highlighted the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) as a key agency supporting this shift.
Marlene Lamonth, Programme Manager for the EU Delegation to Jamaica, reinforced the European Union’s commitment to strengthening economic resilience and innovation. She stressed that MSMEs, which generate 80% of Jamaica’s employment, are the backbone of the economy. According to Lamonth, leveraging digital tools will help businesses streamline operations, innovate, and expand beyond local markets.
JBDC’s Acting CEO, Harold Davis, announced plans to expand the agency’s reach with a new facility in Manchester. He noted that JBDC, which has guided small businesses for 24 years, remains committed to helping entrepreneurs move from startup to market success. Since 2009, the organization has provided vital support to hundreds of rural enterprises, enabling them to scale and compete.
