The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has intensified efforts to enhance livestock production and sustainability in the state. A two-day strategic meeting with the State Technical Committee (STC) and State Steering Committee (SSC) in Lokoja provided a platform for key stakeholders to review implementation strategies, address challenges, and realign interventions with the state’s development goals.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, who also chairs the STC, praised the dedication of the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU). He stressed the need to scale up livestock commercialization and strengthen resilience against industry challenges.
“The state government remains fully committed to initiatives that improve productivity, expand market access, and reinforce resilience in the livestock value chain,” Ojomah said, urging stakeholders to stay focused on delivering sustainable results.
State Project Coordinator, Otaru Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza, emphasized that the committees play a crucial role in ensuring all project activities align with the Project Development Objective (PDO) and the Kogi State Development Plan.
A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation, review, and clearance of the Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWPB) to ensure alignment with the project’s objectives. Stakeholders assessed progress reports, identified priority intervention areas, and discussed strengthening institutional frameworks for better service delivery in the livestock sector.
The meeting drew participation from permanent secretaries of key ministries, including Finance and Water Resources, as well as top officials from the Ministry of Livestock Development, Ministry of Women Affairs, and Kogi Agricultural Development Project (ADP). Representatives from Civil Society Organizations, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the State Security Service (SSS) were also in attendance, reflecting broad stakeholder engagement.
To enhance oversight and ensure effective implementation, committee members will embark on a field tour of project sites from March 15 to 17. The visit aims to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce accountability in achieving tangible outcomes for Kogi State’s livestock sector.
