The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, has announced plans to commence a three-weekend Job Initiative Lagos (JIL) entrepreneurship and intensive digital knowledge training program for students across state-owned tertiary institutions.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Affairs in the ministry, Mamud Hassan, and Tolani Sule, the first batch of 500 beneficiaries will begin classes on November 1, 2025, at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, and the Lagos State College of Health Technology, Yaba.
The initiative, which forms part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, aims to equip students with essential entrepreneurial and digital competencies, empowering them to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy. The program will conclude with a grand finale at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education noted that the entrepreneurship training aligns with the state government’s commitment to driving socio-economic growth through education and technology.
“This administration is committed to fostering entrepreneurship and leveraging digital knowledge to create economic opportunities. Our ultimate goal is to reduce unemployment and consolidate Lagos State’s position as the hub of digital innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.
He further highlighted the government’s continued investment in infrastructure and technological facilities across tertiary institutions, emphasizing that the JIL program would bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world expertise.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Adeniran Kasali, assured participants of the program’s high value and practical impact.
“Seasoned professionals have been carefully selected to train the students, preparing them for global competitiveness and empowering them to become self-reliant contributors to the growth of Lagos and Nigeria,” Kasali stated.
The Job Initiative Lagos is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to build a digitally skilled youth population capable of transforming the state’s small and medium-scale enterprise (SME) landscape through innovation and entrepreneurship.
