Minister Advocates For Research-Driven Innovation To Attract Investments
Share

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Dr. Uche Nnaji, has called for impactful research that provides global solutions to enhance Nigeria’s appeal as a hub for investment. Speaking at the First Annual Convening of the Nigerian Impact Investing Research and Industry Collaborative (NIIRIC) in Abuja, Nnaji, represented by his Special Assistant, Dr. Patricks Oghuma, emphasized the need to align policies to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government.

“Our goal is to position Nigeria as a global leader in research and innovation. This requires addressing funding gaps, ensuring access to infrastructure, and building partnerships with international organizations and research institutions,” said Nnaji. He stressed that research addressing both local and global challenges could attract investments and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to economic diversification, industrialization, and digital transformation as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu. Nnaji noted that innovation is essential for achieving Nigeria’s development objectives and boosting export potential.

Chairperson of NIIRIC, Anna Evi-Parker, highlighted the platform’s role in bridging the gap between researchers and industry leaders, aiming to create an ecosystem that delivers sustainable impact.

In a goodwill message, Professor Chris Ogbechie, Dean of Lagos Business School, described impact investing as a key tool for achieving sustainable development. He affirmed Lagos Business School’s support for initiatives that drive research and innovation.

The event called for stakeholders to join forces in advancing collaborative research efforts to accelerate Nigeria’s innovation landscape and attract investment.
