MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), a subsidiary of MTN Nigeria, collaborated with the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) to organize a two-day symposium and exhibition aimed at empowering nano and small businesses in Lagos.
The symposium primarily introduced Small and Medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) to MoMo’s N40 million grant initiative, designed to incentivize active merchants conducting transactions through the MoMo wallet. This strategic initiative aims to foster increased engagement among SMEs while strengthening the relationship between MoMo PSB and its users, displaying the firm’s dedication to supporting and empowering SMEs within Nigeria’s business landscape.
Elsa Muzzolini, MoMo PSB’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the importance of co-creation and tailored solutions, emphasizing the partnership with NASME as a commitment to empowering SMEs with MoMo’s merchant and customer solutions.
She elaborated on MoMo for merchants, evolving from a simple USSD solution to a comprehensive application, enabling transactions for smartphone users even without internet connectivity.
Abdulrasheed Yerima, President of NASME, represented by Solomon Aderoju, Vice President (South-west), lauded the collaboration’s role in fostering growth, innovation, and connectivity within small and medium enterprises. He connected the exhibition’s mutual benefits to the ‘One Billion Naira Youth and Women Empowerment Fund,’ aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals for 2023.
Yerima highlighted the symposium’s aim to acquaint the NASME community with MTN MoMo wallet and products, facilitating the convergence of innovative financial solutions with SMEs’ dynamic needs.
The symposium featured comprehensive training sessions, enabling MoMo to gather valuable insights into SMEs’ specific requirements. This data-driven approach is expected to enhance MoMo PSB’s ability to offer tailored business transaction experiences to SMEs by addressing their unique needs.
Training topics included finance management, compliance, security, and leveraging digital tools for business expansion, fostering knowledge sharing between seasoned coaches and SMEs, with the intent to equip SMEs with essential skills for sustainable growth.
