Moniepoint Inc, Africa’s fastest-growing financial institution, in partnership with ACIOE Associates and Tech4Dev, recently hosted a two-day workshop in Abuja aimed at improving financial literacy and online security for women entrepreneurs and People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs). This initiative, attended by over 100 participants, focused on equipping small and micro-business owners with essential financial and digital skills for thriving in the modern business landscape.
The workshop featured hands-on sessions covering financial planning, budgeting, cybersecurity, and safe online payment practices. Special emphasis was placed on gender inclusion, with organizers highlighting how financial literacy and cyber hygiene are critical for empowering vulnerable groups, particularly women.
Tosin Eniolorunda, Group CEO of Moniepoint Inc, stressed the importance of financial literacy in fostering economic inclusion and supporting entrepreneurship. “Financial literacy is key to social and economic inclusion, particularly for women. When women understand financial concepts, they can better manage their finances, access services, and build wealth, which drives entrepreneurial success and contributes to the economy,” he said.
Innocent Isichei, Managing Partner of ACIOE Associates, pointed out the unique vulnerabilities faced by businesswomen and PLWDs in the digital space. “By building a secure digital ‘fortress,’ women can confidently navigate the online environment, safeguard their businesses, and leverage technology for growth,” Isichei stated, adding that addressing financial literacy and access challenges is essential for achieving economic empowerment.
Participants praised the initiative, noting that it provided them with valuable tools to succeed in today’s increasingly digital economy, including strategies for business expansion and online security. The workshop is part of broader efforts to support financial inclusion and economic empowerment in Nigeria, where limited financial knowledge and digital security continue to challenge small businesses.
As the global economy becomes more interconnected, initiatives like this play a vital role in enabling women and PLWDs to participate fully in the digital economy, ensuring they are equipped to face the challenges of a rapidly evolving business environment.
