MTN Commits ₦3 Billion to Boost Nigeria’s 3 Million Tech Talent Drive
Share

Nigeria’s ambition to become a global hub for digital talent has received fresh momentum, as MTN Nigeria pledged a total investment of ₦3 billion to support the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative. The program, which aims to train three million Nigerians in digital and technical skills by 2027, is a key pillar of the Renewed Hope agenda.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, who praised MTN’s early and ongoing commitment to the initiative. He described the telecoms giant as a long-term backer of the program, noting that their support predates the recent public rollout of the 3MTT campaign.

The initiative seeks to build a future-ready workforce that can serve both local and global markets. With demand for technical skills rising worldwide, Nigeria aims to position its youth as a major export in the digital economy.

MTN’s financial commitment follows similar moves by other major players in the private sector. In March, Airtel Africa Foundation announced a ₦1 billion contribution, while telecom infrastructure firm IHS Towers signed a separate ₦1 billion agreement with the Ministry to establish 37 learning communities—one in each state and the Federal Capital Territory.

The IHS partnership also covers the salaries of community managers for each learning centre over a three-year period, supporting long-term project sustainability and community engagement.

The Minister emphasized that such public-private partnerships are essential for driving the nation’s digital transformation and building an inclusive tech ecosystem. He reiterated that sustained investment from industry leaders like MTN is central to Nigeria’s goal of developing and exporting world-class tech talent.
