NACETEM launches Initiative to Train One Million Nigerians in skills
Share

The National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) has launched an ambitious initiative to train one million workers in skills critical to Nigeria’s socio-economic development over the next five years. Dr. Olushola Odusanya, NACETEM’s Director-General, announced this during an interview in Abuja, highlighting the program’s focus on middle- and high-level manpower.

Key Points of the NACETEM Academy Initiative:

Creation and Collaboration:

NACETEM Academy was established in the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The academy will offer massive online training opportunities through collaborations with private sector firms, including a partnership with Commits Nig Ltd. and global certification body Certiport.

Training and Certification:

The program aims to provide qualitative training and certification in various skills.

Courses will cover areas like digital literacy, communication skills, competitiveness, and entrepreneurship for small businesses.

The training will not be free, and there are basic qualifications required from trainees.

ICT Skills Focus:

With a deficit in ICT-skilled workers, the program will focus heavily on computing, software development, artificial intelligence, database management, analytics, and project management skills.

Specialized ICT certifications will also be available for different professions, including business, law, accounting, and education.

Global Certification and Recognition:

Trainees will receive globally recognized certifications, enabling them to compete and work internationally.

NACETEM has signed MoUs with institutions like the Federal University of Technology, Minna, to ensure that the certificates issued are recognized.

Economic and Workforce Impact:

The initiative aims to leverage Nigeria’s youthful population, enhancing the workforce’s skills and contributing to socio-economic development.

By equipping workers with relevant skills, the program aims to address the country’s ICT skill deficit and enhance global competitiveness.

Dr. Odusanya emphasized the importance of this initiative in connecting Nigeria’s massive workforce with necessary skills, particularly in ICT, which is in high global demand. He also highlighted the role of NACETEM Academy as a finishing school for graduates seeking global certification to advance their careers.
