The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is teaming up with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to bolster energy solutions and industrial growth in Nigeria.
UNIDO’s Deputy Head in Nigeria, Mr. Adekunle Olusile, led a delegation to NASENI to foster collaborations aiming to curb energy waste, aid the government’s food production agenda, and initiate partnerships between German entities and the Agency.
NASENI, represented by Mrs. Nonyem Onyechi, highlighted its role in driving Nigeria’s industrial development through technology transfer, offering capital goods to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and showcasing innovative products.
During the visit, NASENI showcased its interventions in renewable, agricultural, and industrial sectors, presenting technological innovations and machinery to the UNIDO delegation.
Michael Schmidt from UNIDO’s Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Germany emphasized their focus on sustainable industrial development, aiming to foster technology transfer from Germany to developing countries. The visit focused on establishing collaboration areas between German companies and NASENI for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
The collaboration aims to bolster President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food production agenda by focusing on food processing, energy waste reduction through biogas production, and deploying renewable energy solutions like solar PV.
Identifying various collaboration areas, the delegation emphasized Germany’s strength in renewables and sought to understand Nigeria’s plans for solar PV expansion by 2030.
To progress, NASENI and UNIDO formed a committee to drive these initiatives, involving German companies like Bloomhill Agroservices, (B)energy, Wilo Pumps, GEA, EMPO-NI, and University Weihenstephan Triesdorf, among others, in the discussion held at Belanova Apartment and Suites in Abuja.
