NCC Mandates Licensed Telecom Operators to Update Contact Information by January 2025
Share

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive requiring all licensed telecommunications operators to update their contact details by 9 January 2025. This initiative, grounded in the Licensing Regulations 2019, aims to bolster regulatory oversight and foster stronger collaboration within Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

Requirements for Contact Updates

Operators are required to provide detailed and accurate updates on the following:

  1. Principal Business Address: Including postcode, geographic coordinates, and nearby landmarks.
  2. Mailing Address: If different from the physical location.
  3. Email Contacts: Active and regularly monitored addresses.
  4. Phone Numbers: Updated and operational lines.
  5. Personnel Details: Names and roles of staff responsible for regulatory and operational matters.

Submission Process

Updates must be submitted through the NCC’s eServices platform. Operators must also notify the Commission within seven days of any subsequent changes to their contact information.

Compliance and Penalties

The NCC has emphasized the importance of adherence, warning that non-compliance could result in severe penalties, such as:

  • Fines.
  • Licence suspension.
  • Licence revocation.

While specific penalties were not outlined, the NCC stressed that accurate contact information is crucial for effective communication, industry responsiveness, and maintaining regulatory standards.

According to Reuben Mouka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, the directive is part of the Commission’s efforts to ensure transparency and improve engagement between regulators and operators.

Operators are encouraged to comply promptly to avoid sanctions and contribute to the growth and stability of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
