The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, has launched a training and empowerment program aimed at equipping men, women, and youths with skills in various areas such as Micro Enterprises Scheme (MEES), Batik fabric making, Confectionary, among others.
Mallam Nuhu Fikpo, the Director-General of NDE, announced the commencement of the training and empowerment program at the NDE Conference room in Abakaliki, the State Capital. The program, represented by NDE State Coordinator Mr. Don Anaba, will benefit a total of 178 individuals.
Anaba outlined the breakdown of beneficiaries, including 98 persons for MEES, 20 women for Batik Fabric making, 20 women for Souvenir making, 20 individuals for Confectionary, and an additional 20 for Crochet making.
Participants were urged to take the training seriously by Pastor Anaba, who commended the efforts of the NDE in tackling unemployment in the country. He emphasized the importance of self-reliance, stating that no government can employ all its citizens.
Dr. Ekea Awa Ekea, Head of Department, Department of Small Scale Enterprises, emphasized the significance of utilizing the skills acquired for economic well-being, highlighting the shift towards practical skills over academic qualifications.
Mrs. Nwizi Martha, Head of Unit, Women Employment Branch, encouraged female participants to actively engage in the program, recognizing its potential to support their families.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of others, beneficiaries Mrs. Nweke Chinyere and Ogodo Sunday thanked the NDE for their efforts in positively impacting the lives of Nigerians.
