The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who commended Nigerian workers for their diligence, sacrifice, and invaluable contributions to national development.

Tunji-Ojo highlighted the critical role of Nigerian workers in shaping the country’s internal growth and enhancing its global reputation. “There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the Minister said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to creating a peaceful and secure environment, essential for driving industrialisation and economic growth. He also urged workers across all sectors to embrace innovation and productivity to uplift the quality of governance and ensure that citizens benefit fully from Nigeria’s resources.

“The efforts of our workers are largely responsible for the greatness of our nation and the respect we command internationally,” he stated.

While wishing Nigerians a happy Workers’ Day celebration, Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to remain hopeful and support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
