Nigerian Government Trains Over 75,000 Youths in Skills Acquisition Through IDEAS-TVET Initiative
Share

The Nigerian Government has disclosed that more than 75,000 youths have been trained under the Innovation Development and Effective Skills Acquisition (IDEAS-TVET) program, a national initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with practical vocational skills and enterprise readiness.

National Project Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ogwu, stated this during the launch of a six-month free Agric and Aquaculture training programme for 100 young participants in Badagry, Lagos. The programme is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education under the IDEAS-TVET initiative, in partnership with SejFarms Consults Limited.

Ogwu explained that the current phase marks the second cohort of the initiative and forms part of the government’s strategy to empower young people, foster job creation, and strengthen the skill-to-income pipeline across communities.

She stressed that the broader target is to equip more than 75,000 youths before the programme ends, noting that skill transfer remains crucial for national development and youth independence.

The Managing Director, SejFarms Consults Limited, Mr. Sejiro Oke-Tojinu, noted that the agric-based training will help young graduates become productive farmers capable of supporting food production and food security priorities.

Other speakers at the launch encouraged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity and leverage the training as a pathway to self-employment, agribusiness expansion and long-term economic inclusion.
