The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have joined forces to enhance food productivity among small-scale farmers in Nigeria. This partnership was confirmed after NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, hosted the Country Director of IFAD, Ms Ekoue Dede, and her team at NITDA’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Ms. Dede expressed gratitude for past support from NITDA and sought continued collaboration while inviting the agency to engage in policy dialogue. The partnership aims to amplify the use of Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICT4D) to bolster food productivity among small farmers, as confirmed by the statement released by NITDA.
Inuwa highlighted the transformative potential of technology in revolutionizing farming practices and attracting Nigerian youths to the agricultural sector. He stressed the importance of leveraging existing ecosystems to foster expansion within the country.
Additionally, Inuwa unveiled NIJA Chat, an innovative application developed by iCELL, expressing excitement over its potential to contribute to Nigeria’s public digital infrastructure and boost the nation’s economy. He encouraged Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to embrace this latest technological advancement, emphasizing that doing so would stimulate further innovative creations within the country.
The NIJA Chat application is a multifunctional lifestyle app integrated with features such as messaging, gaming, live calls, sports, AI chats, and media services.
