The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) have joined forces to digitize more than 40 million businesses in Nigeria.
In a recent event in Abuja, NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, highlighted the significance of this move in driving growth and sustainability. He emphasized that SMEs are the backbone of the economy, stressing the need for a unified database to eliminate conflicting figures regarding SMEs in the country.
This partnership aligns with the government’s agenda to diversify the economy by leveraging technological innovation to enhance productivity. Through technology, SMEs will gain access to funding, mentorship, and other vital support services.
Inuwa stressed the importance of prioritizing SMEs to create prosperity, underscoring the need for accurate data to tailor incentives effectively. He emphasized the role of digital literacy in empowering SMEs to expand their market reach and thrive in the digital age.
Charles Odii, Director General of SMEDAN, highlighted the necessity for SMEs to embrace technology for operational expansion. The collaboration with NITDA will focus on infrastructure, digital literacy, and database creation to provide valuable insights for targeted support and growth.
