The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on corps members deployed to Anambra State to build on their newly acquired skills through post-camp mentorship and continuous practice. The call came during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Exercise at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South.
Addressing the corps members, the Anambra State NYSC Coordinator highlighted the importance of sustaining the discipline, resilience, and enthusiasm exhibited during the orientation. She emphasized that the camp was designed to prepare participants for the realities of national service by equipping them with vital knowledge, physical endurance, and entrepreneurial insight.
The Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, she noted, provided corps members with practical exposure that should not end with the camp. She encouraged them to seek out mentors, work with skilled trainers, and develop their chosen crafts into sustainable ventures capable of creating jobs.
As corps members head to communities across Anambra’s 21 local government areas, they were urged to identify pressing needs, design practical projects, and find support to execute initiatives that could leave a lasting legacy. Emphasis was placed on the importance of Community Development Service (CDS) as a core NYSC responsibility.
Describing their deployment as a beginning rather than an end, she charged them to serve as NYSC ambassadors, upholding values of hard work, integrity, and patriotism. She expressed confidence in their ability to meet national expectations.
Appreciation was extended to the state governor for his continued support, as well as to community stakeholders, traditional rulers, and local authorities for their contributions to a successful orientation. The NYSC also recognized the G20 Association of Awgbu for constructing three modern lodges for corps members, describing it as a model of community partnership.
The coordinator concluded by acknowledging the professionalism of the camp management and security personnel, and officially declared the orientation programme closed on behalf of the Director General of NYSC.
She wished all corps members a year marked by purposeful service, personal development, and meaningful contributions to Nigeria.
