The Obosi Development Union (ODU) Skills Acquisition, Empowerment, and Palliatives (SAEP) Committee Worldwide has announced a partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in Anambra State. This collaboration focuses on entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and business linkages as part of the upcoming graduation of the Obosi 1 Household 2 Skills Project.

Key Developments

  1. Collaboration with UBA
    • The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has introduced special funding account packages for the project’s successful trainees.
    • Discussions are ongoing to create more sustainable and accessible funding products to support participants.
  2. Project Goals
    • Nze Chisom Onugha, Chairman of the ODU SAEP Committee Worldwide, emphasized the project’s aim to combat social vices and unemployment by empowering disadvantaged and vulnerable citizens through skills acquisition.
    • The initiative seeks to foster job creation, security, and human resource development in Obosi.
  3. Pilot Phase Achievements
    • The pilot phase, funded by philanthropic individuals from Obosi, included skills training, empowerment programs, and entrepreneurial support.
    • Trainees showcased their progress through a mini product exhibition and testimonials during the mid-session seminar.
  • Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Eze Obosi, commended the initiative and encouraged youth to take it seriously.
  • Nze Chimezie Obi, ODU Worldwide President General, highlighted the project as a localized complement to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s state-level initiatives.
  • Mrs Chito Onwuzulike, SMEDAN Anambra State Manager, urged participants to seize this opportunity to grow their skills and businesses.

The ODU SAEP Committee aims to expand the project’s impact by securing support from the Federal, State, and Local Governments, as well as public and private institutions. Chairman Onugha described the partnership as pivotal for achieving rapid enterprise development and industrialization in Nigeria.

The project’s achievements thus far include:

  • A robust mentorship program.
  • Logistical support for master trainers.
  • Goodwill contributions from community promoters.

The Obosi 1 Household 2 Skills Project exemplifies a community-driven approach to economic empowerment, promising a brighter future for the people of Obosi and beyond.
