The Ogun State Government, through its World Bank-supported State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), has successfully trained more than 15,000 artisans and traders as part of its drive to enhance entrepreneurial skills and boost economic development.

  1. Training Categories and Statistics
    • Vocational/ICT Programs: 6,605 participants
    • Entrepreneurship Training: 4,989 participants
    • Functional Literacy Training: 5,288 participants

Over 4,000 beneficiaries have already completed their training under the first batch, with the second batch currently ongoing.

  2. Target Groups and Focus Areas
    • The program focuses on market women, artisans, and traders, aiming to improve business management, income generation, and functional literacy skills.
    • The third phase will expand to local communities, bringing the training closer to grassroots participants.
  3. Accessibility and Inclusivity
    • Interested participants are encouraged to register for the third batch via the OGSTEP website to access demand-driven training at designated centers.
    • The initiative is non-partisan, ensuring equitable access for all eligible participants.

Program Impact

  • Economic Empowerment:
The training equips participants with essential skills to thrive in today’s competitive economic environment, enhancing productivity and strengthening Ogun State’s economic fabric.
  • Community Development:
Stakeholders from various regions, including Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, and Egba, have expressed gratitude to the government, pledging to mobilize members for active participation.
  • Gender Inclusion:
OGSTEP’s Gender Specialist, Mrs. Ewajesu, highlighted the program’s focus on empowering women and traders, enhancing literacy and business management capacities.

Government Commitment

Adesegun Fatoki, OGSTEP’s Skills Development Specialist, reiterated the state government’s dedication to fostering economic growth through skill acquisition. He emphasized that the initiative aims to empower residents with practical, demand-driven skills to manage their businesses effectively.

The OGSTEP initiative represents a transformative step towards economic empowerment in Ogun State. By equipping artisans and traders with critical skills, the program is fostering entrepreneurship, enhancing productivity, and contributing to the state’s broader economic development goals. Beneficiaries are optimistic about the program’s potential to create lasting positive change in their communities.
