In a renewed push to empower young people through vocational skills, the Ogun State Government has partnered with tech firm Cybervilla to offer free training on phone and electronic device repairs for youths across the state.
The initiative, structured under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will provide hands-on technical education aimed at enhancing youth self-reliance and equipping them for opportunities in the digital economy. The training will be facilitated by Cybervilla, a technology company committed to incubating innovative business ideas and fostering digital skills development.
In a statement released by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Bureau of Information Technology (BIT), Olayinka Ezema, the government highlighted vocational education as a key strategy in tackling unemployment and preparing youth for economic participation. Governor Dapo Abiodun, the statement noted, believes that practical skills acquisition is crucial for youth development in today’s tech-driven economy.
Cybervilla’s Chief Executive Officer, Ifeanyi Adirika, described Ogun State as a springboard for innovation, praising the administration’s openness to collaboration and its efforts in attracting tech investments. Adirika explained that the initial phase of the programme will train 50 young people, who will not only receive toolkits for their trade but also be considered for job placements within the company and through state government channels.
“Our goal is to support the governor’s vision for youth empowerment. We’re not just training—we’re equipping these youths to thrive and create opportunities for others,” Adirika said.
Speaking on behalf of participants, Mr. Timilehin Ajisebutu thanked both the state government and Cybervilla for the opportunity. He pledged to make the most of the training, with hopes of one day becoming an employer of labour himself.
This partnership underscores Ogun State’s growing reputation as a hub for tech innovation and youth development, and aligns with broader efforts to promote job creation and economic inclusion through vocational and digital education.
