Ojokoro LCDA Launches N100 Million Empowerment Scheme for Residents
Share

The Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has launched a N100 million empowerment programme aimed at supporting small business owners, artisans, and residents struggling with the current economic realities.

Speaking during the flag-off at the council secretariat, Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Oluyemisi Rosiji, said the initiative will provide direct cash support of N100,000 each to 1,000 residents across the community.

Rosiji explained that the programme is part of the council’s broader plan to strengthen local businesses, improve household income, and foster inclusive growth at the grassroots level.

“This empowerment is designed to ease the economic burden on our people. Beneficiaries are drawn from community-based associations, youth groups, religious organisations, and artisan unions to ensure fair representation,” she said.

She further noted that the disbursement would be carried out in phases to reach as many qualified residents as possible before the conclusion of the programme.

In addition to the cash grants, Rosiji also presented N100,000 each to 150 graduates and instructors of the Ojokoro School of Vocational Studies to enable them to start or expand their businesses.

Council Manager, Mojisola Akinola, commended the chairman for prioritising empowerment and economic inclusion, describing the scheme as one of several people-centered initiatives under her administration.

“Beyond this empowerment, the council is also investing in community security and infrastructure. We will soon hand over operational vehicles to the police and inaugurate newly completed roads to mark the administration’s first 100 days in office,” she said.

One of the beneficiaries, Abiodun Adelabu, expressed gratitude for the unexpected financial support, saying the grant would help her restock her business and sustain her family’s income.

The initiative underscores Ojokoro LCDA’s commitment to empowering small businesses and promoting self-reliance among residents amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.
