Ondo First Lady Flags Off ICT Empowerment Programme for Women

Ondo State First Lady, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and development through technology-driven initiatives. She made this known at the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Information and Communication Technology Training and Empowerment Programme held on Tuesday in Akure.

The programme, organised in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), aims to strengthen women’s capacity in ICT and digital innovation. Mrs Aiyedatiwa described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the government’s resolve to advance gender equality and harness women’s potential in the digital economy.

She stressed the importance of ICT skills for women, noting that access to technology is vital for empowerment, competitiveness, and participation in a fast-evolving global economy.

The training, which will run simultaneously across six states, is expected to benefit 40 women in each location. The First Lady commended NITDA for its continued role in bridging Nigeria’s digital divide and aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development.

Mrs Aiyedatiwa added that the initiative would accelerate economic diversification by promoting industrialisation and digitalisation across key sectors.

Speaking at the event, NITDA Director-General Kashifu Abdullahi reiterated the agency’s mission to transform Nigeria into a sustainable digital economy powered by technology and innovation.

He also acknowledged women as leaders, creators, and innovators who play vital roles in shaping families, communities, and the nation at large.
