Ondo State is steadily shedding its image as a predominantly civil service state and rebranding into one of Nigeria’s most promising business and investment destinations, driven by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s proactive economic reforms.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, said in Akure that the administration’s OUR EASE Agenda is pushing multi-sectoral transformation aimed at making Ondo a competitive economic hub. He noted that strategic investments in infrastructure, power, agriculture, tourism and improved revenue systems are boosting investor confidence and positioning the state for sustainable growth.
Ajanaku commended the Ministry of Energy and Power for expanding electricity access, particularly through the distribution of over 13,000 prepaid meters to residents and small business owners. This, he said, has curbed estimated billing, increased transparency and supported business growth. He added that enhanced coordination between the Ondo State Power Company and distribution firms has led to a more stable power supply, which is helping small and medium-scale enterprises increase productivity and expand operations.
Recognising revenue reforms, he praised the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service for driving Internally Generated Revenue through digital systems, tax awareness and transparent collection processes, which have strengthened public trust and financial independence.
On infrastructure, he highlighted key projects such as the dualisation of Ikare–Akungba and Akure–Idanre roads, the Okitipupa–Igbokoda route and the new flyover on the Akure–Ilesa expressway. He emphasised that the Araromi–Lekki road, once completed, will directly link Ondo to Lagos, opening new trade and tourism corridors. He further described the Port Ondo Project as a transformative initiative set to unlock maritime trade and industrial growth.
In agriculture, Ajanaku reaffirmed Ondo’s position as Nigeria’s leading cocoa producer and second largest in West Africa. The state, he said, is shifting focus to value addition and agribusiness to create employment and boost export earnings.
He also announced the return of the MARE Mountain Climbing Festival in Idanre this December, projecting it as a tourism attraction capable of drawing investors.
“Ondo State is ready for business. We have the resources, strategic location, power stability and transparent governance that investors are looking for. The Aiyedatiwa administration is determined to make Ondo Nigeria’s next business hub,” he said.
