The Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth in Livestock Agriculture (EEWYLA) initiative is set to transform Africa’s livestock industry by empowering marginalized groups and integrating innovative practices into the sector. Led by Amina Momoh-Orimoloye, the founder of Oriyon International Limited, the program aims to train 7,200 livestock breeders by 2027 while opening pathways to global markets.

Speaking in Lagos, Momoh-Orimoloye emphasized the initiative’s unique approach. “Unlike conventional livestock programmes that often fail to achieve scalability or market access, the EEWYLA initiative offers a refreshing alternative,” she said.

EEWYLA integrates participants into a system designed to deliver tangible economic growth. The program equips beneficiaries with Forward Purchasing Agreements, certified breeding colonies, and blockchain technology, ensuring product traceability from origin to market.

“This model guarantees consistent demand and income while building trust in global markets,” Momoh-Orimoloye explained.

The initiative prioritizes women, youth, and people with disabilities (PWDs), offering them starter herds, access to land, and opportunities for global market integration. It also adopts a zero-waste approach through mechanized processing facilities for dairy, meat, hides, and biogas production, ensuring environmental sustainability.

“For women, youths, and PWDs entering this sector, the initiative offers more than just training—it offers economic empowerment,” she added.

Momoh-Orimoloye highlighted how Africa has historically been excluded from high-value export markets due to compliance challenges. EEWYLA seeks to bridge this gap by positioning Nigerian farmers as competitive players on the global stage.

“This ecosystem not only boosts income but also puts Nigerian livestock on the global map,” she said, urging policymakers, financial institutions, and international partners to support this vision of inclusive, traceable agriculture.

Momoh-Orimoloye encouraged individuals and organizations eager to transform the future of livestock farming to act now. “With this partnership, Nigeria’s livestock sector stands on the cusp of a revolution—one that promises empowerment, sustainability, and a brighter economic future,” she said.

EEWYLA offers a bold vision of how Africa’s livestock industry can drive economic empowerment, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
