At a media briefing in Lagos, Olajumoke Ola-Akinsanya, Senior Executive Officer of FALA, revealed that the Oyakhilome Foundation Initiative had granted $125,000 to the top 10 winners of the Future Africa Leadership Award. The grant aimed to bolster development initiatives within their respective countries.
Explaining the selection process, Ola-Akinsanya mentioned that 30 nominees were carefully evaluated based on their project’s impact, innovation, and sustainability. The best 10 candidates were then chosen, with each recipient receiving $10,000. The standout winner was awarded an additional $25,000 as the star prize.
Mariama Gendemh, the overall winner from Sierra Leone, expressed gratitude for the grant, highlighting plans to tackle food security and other socio-economic issues in her country. Her foundation aimed to address malnutrition through agricultural initiatives focused on providing food for the community.
A representative of the Oyakhilome Foundation, identified as Temisan, stressed the award’s objective: recognizing exceptional young African leaders making a tangible impact in their communities. The initiative aimed to address Africa’s leadership deficit by empowering young Africans to contribute significantly to their societies’ development, emphasizing the pivotal role of Africans in driving Africa’s progress.
