Oyo State Disburses N20 Million Grants to Fire Victims
Share

The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to lifting residents out of poverty by prioritizing their welfare and empowering them economically. This was highlighted as the state distributed N20 million in livelihood support grants to victims of market fire outbreaks across Gbaremu, Sango, Oke-Itunu, and Oranyan markets.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration for its consistent support of residents affected by unforeseen disasters. She emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to restore economic stability to fire victims and their dependents.

“This intervention is aimed at helping victims regain self-sufficiency and support their dependents. Beyond financial aid, we’ve also organized fire prevention and mitigation training to avoid future occurrences. This first phase of disbursement is only the beginning, as other affected markets will soon benefit,” Balogun said.

Former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, commended Makinde’s administration for its people-centered governance. Similarly, PDP chieftain Chief Babatunde Tijani highlighted the governor’s swift response to the victims’ plight as a testament to his pro-people approach.

Representing the beneficiaries, Chief (Mrs.) Borode Omotayo Bolaji, the Iyaloja of Ibadan North, expressed gratitude to the government for the timely intervention. She noted that the N5 million allocated to her market had already been deposited and would be disbursed promptly.

The event, attended by market leaders and government officials, showcased the administration’s dedication to fostering economic resilience and addressing the needs of vulnerable residents.
