Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has given the green light for the release of ₦1 billion as a grant to farmers in the state through the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAFER) Programme. This initiative aims to enhance food security in Oyo.
Sheikh Taofeek Akeugbagold, Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), announced this significant development during a press conference held at the Film Theater of the Oyo State Ministry of Information, Secretariat, Ibadan. He further revealed that the grant will be distributed to farmers across all 33 local government areas in the state.
To ensure efficient administration of the grant, ACCOS has segmented Oyo State into seven zones. Akeugbagold also outlined plans for an informative campaign in these zones.
The exact method for disbursing the grant will be unveiled during subsequent town hall meetings. Akeugbagold emphasized that the process will be transparent, fair, and non-partisan, benefitting legitimate farmers in Oyo State.
He stated, “The program is an intervention program and for ease of disbursement and to make sure that all zones are touched, micro-finance banks will be used for disbursement. The list of the successful micro-finance banks will be made public at or before the town hall meetings.”
