Oyo State ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) received approximately N3.6 billion in grants from international and federal agencies in 2022, according to the state’s 2023 Audited Financial Report. The report, released on July 19 by the Office of the State Auditor-General, highlights financial support from prominent organizations including the World Bank, UNICEF, and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The grants were aimed at supporting various programs implemented by different MDAs in the state. Among the beneficiaries, the Agency for Youth Development received N575.4 million from the World Bank to fund activities under the Labour Intensive Public Works (LIPW) component of the NIGERIA-CARES program. Additionally, the World Bank allocated ₦396 million to the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency for initiatives aimed at assisting community and vulnerable groups and enhancing basic services delivery.
The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency benefited from N107.8 million provided by the federal government under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) program. Furthermore, the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board received a substantial grant of N1.03 billion from UNICEF to support various health-related programs.
UNICEF also contributed N76 million to the state’s Ministry of Health for its Annual Operational Plan, Oxygen Management, and Oxygen Technical Working Committee initiatives under the BHCPF. The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning received N68.7 million from UNICEF for a range of developmental programs.
In the education sector, TETFund allocated N339.7 million to The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and N502 million to Lanlate College of Education. The Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency also received N500 million in grants, though the specific organization providing these funds was not disclosed in the report.
These grants reflect significant external support for the Oyo State government’s efforts in youth development, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and other critical areas. The financial assistance is expected to bolster the state’s ongoing programs and contribute to its broader developmental objectives.
