The Oyo State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with COVEC, a subsidiary of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to accelerate agribusiness growth and strengthen the state’s economic base.
The agreement was unveiled during a high-level stakeholders’ forum at the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, bringing together government officials, development partners, and agribusiness stakeholders.
The collaboration will focus on modern farm estate development, agricultural mechanisation, and the production of high-value crops using advanced technology. By aligning with Oyo State’s natural vegetation and agricultural strengths, the initiative is expected to enhance food security, increase export potential, and position the state as a hub for agribusiness in Nigeria and West Africa.
Officials described the deal as a leap forward in economic stability and resilience. They emphasised that the partnership supports Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision of turning Oyo into a leading centre for commercial farming and agro-industrial development.
COVEC confirmed that its mission is to introduce globally tested agricultural practices that will make farming in Oyo State more commercially viable and sustainable. The company will also provide technical expertise and infrastructure financing to strengthen the long-term impact of the initiative.
The Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) explained that the partnership is a critical step in implementing the state’s Agribusiness Roadmap, which prioritises rural industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable growth. The collaboration is expected to scale up existing projects, facilitate technology transfer, and attract additional private sector investment.
By combining capital, innovation, and expertise, the state believes the partnership will transform its agribusiness sector, open new export opportunities, and provide livelihoods for thousands of farmers and rural communities.
